The region is honoured to Host Graham Slater to our region on the 3rd March usual time of 8pm at Coxhoe club tickets £2.00 for PAC and £3.00 to non PAC to cover buffet costs etc. Graham has had some memorable catches over the years and is noted for many species not just pike.

Lets hope the weather holds for the trip as sadly Mark could not make it due to snow!

In the event of further concerns about the weather please check with Shane or one of the committee if its snowing nearer the time.

Shane Patterson takes on the reins of Region 21/89

Shane has been a big support to Craig his brother doing a number of roles in the club over the past few years but was unanimously voted in as the new RO at our recent AGM. I'm sure all members wish Shane all the best in his new role. Shane is a bit of a dark horse when it comes to pike fishing as he has a 20's list as long as your arm and an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of waters from the South to Northern Scotland. Shane also walked away with the majority of the trophies at our recent AGM.

I couldn't put one of Shanes larger fish pictures in as he might launch into a story about it so here is Shane with a more modest catch (only kidding Shane!) Oh and before you get excited Rob not its not a pike from Keilder.

Mark Ackerley comes to the region

The region is proud to present Mark Ackerley who needs little introduction in the pike angling Scene being a regular to the front cover of 'Pikelines' . Mark now lives in Scotland and has kindly graced us with a rare appearance. If you want to hear Mark Speak he will be be at Coxhoe Working Mens club on the 3rd February at 8pm There will be a cost of £2.00 for PAC members and £3.00 for non PAC members on the door to cover the cost of buffet etc.

Despite a bitterly cold day over 50 anglers showed up with a temendous result for Macmillan Cancer Support of over £2,800 (expected to be over £3,000 when all monies are in)

Neville Fickling comes to the region!

Neville is visiting us on the 4th of November at Coxhoe Working men's club. Neville is a well known Pike angler who's played an influential role in the PAC and the sport for many years.If you want to hear some inspiring stories why not pop in and see us.

Nevilles talk will be on from 8pm with doors open around 7:30 there will be cheap drinks, a light buffet, tackle stalls and a raffle. A small fee will be charged for admission to cover costs of the buffet etc

Problems at Fairburn

Its been noted over the pat few days there have been reports of vandalism at the RSPB reserve at Fairburn where we have recently acquired fishing rights. Members are reminded to report suspicious activities to the police and not to approach suspected perpetrators.

The RSPB have been reassured that our members are not in any way responsible. Craig our RO has given reassurances that we will keep a look out wherever possible. It was known for some time the areas was a bit rough round the edges but we had hoped that after seeing off most of the trouble by renewed vigilance and increased activity we had seen the last of it. We are hoping this is simply a blip by a few local yobs with nothing better to do.

We will keep you posted of any future activities and if the situation changes.

Links with the R.S.P.B. look good for the future

Chas White, Craig Patterson, Shane Patterson, Peter Green and Colin Goodge all met with the R.S.P.B. yesterday to discuss the really positive work undertaken at Fairburn, and looking at ways of how we can build on that success. Our RO Craig has reported the discussions went really well and we have every reason to be optimistic for the future. More details to follow soon.

Pete Heywood and Phil Kirk come to the region...

The region is honoured to have two piking legends in the names of Phil Kirk and Pete Heywood visit the region on the 4th March.

Venue is the usual Coxhoe Club and the time from 7:30 pm . Tickets are £3.00 for non PAC and £2.00 for members with concessions.

The last visit we had some time ago was a roaring success with a very entertaining evening had by all. We expect this night to be no different. Definitely one not to be missed. There will be an Eddie Turner tackle stand plus the usual raffle and buffet in the interval.

Charity Event at Underbank

There is to be a new "War of the Roses" All for charity. Wakefield and Glossop regions will be holding an event at Underbank Reservoir near Sheffield on February the 24th.

All taking part will be raising funds for Macmillan Nurses cancer support. The cost of this will be £7.50 adult and £5 OAP, disabled and kids with 95% going to the charity. This is a worthwhile charity as cancer touches so many of our lives, so please come along and support it.

Teach in a Big Success

The Teach in organised by Peter Green and members from our region was a big success with around 14 interested anglers turning up on the day.

Shane and Peter were showing people tackle and techniques from their years of experience whilst Craig our RO was reported to be teaching pike how to hide under trees.

Peter was keen to show people his new drifter float rig. Apparently you can see it for over as mile. (only kidding Peter!)

AGM Report for 2007

The AGM was a big success this year with a good turnout. There were a few anglers cleaning up with prizes on the day. Gino Coates had prizes for the biggest river fish and biggest fish overall. (Gino on the left, Rob Murray our LO on the right)

Shane had the biggest fish from a club trip, most points overall and the biggest fish from a stillwater

Jamie Patterson had the biggest fish by a junior and I think biggest lure caught fish.

Pike angler of the year for the region was shared by Shane and Craig for their efforts in reinvigorating the club and bringing a bit of fun back to the region.

Jim "Tumble" Taylor was awarded the "if only it had fins" booby prize this year and was warned that if he wins it a third time he gets to keep it ... Yes Jim, be careful here and no more trees!!!!

And Honarary PAC member Chas White got ....yes you guessed it smallest fish...

Just to let everyone know the AGM is planned for the 8th January 2008. If anyone has items for the agenda please let Craig know asap before the meeting.

We've gone from strength to strength this year and even with the expenses of a club water our funds are better than ever. We now plan to buy our own multimedia projector for club speakers from club funds and have increased our insurance to cover growing numbers of members for Fairburn. If you want to have your say and influence things for next year make sure you attend the meeting on the 8th at Coxhoe Cub from 8pm.

Money raised from raffles goes towards funding speakers to the region, upkeep of our water and special events.

Mark Barrett talk a great success!

Our VIP Guest speaker Mark Barrett was warmly welcomed by over 40 people this Tuesday who were treat to a great evening of Mark recounting exploits. (Mark on the left Craig our RO with the cheesy grin on the right.)

Mark not only showed some fantastic Pike Pictures but also showed specimen fish of most species from big Zander, Tench, Carp, Rudd and Catfish to name a few. I'm sure it was a big boost to peoples confidence to see what can be achieved with some dedication to the sport.

Big thanks to Mark for a fab night.

Mick Gleeson also managed to sell some tackle on the night. with a special guest appearance from Peter Green

Costs for the event were covered by a raffle and door collection aided by Jim (tumble) Taylor who was obviously a baliff in a former life. Thanks Jim!

Mark Barratt visits the region 4th December

The region proudly hosts Mark Barratt Secretary of the PAC on Tuesday the 4th December 2007 at 8pm Everyone is welcome and promises to be a great night as Mark tells us of his exploits.

East Yorkshire weekend -a big success!

With people decending from all over the region the caravan weekend was a big success with

Seven anglers attending the event and everyone caught! ( a miracle for a club trip!) The final tally for the weekend was 34 Pike & 1 Chub, with 11 doubles to 18lb 2oz.

Jamie Patterson lead the way with I think the best fish to a junior reported this year of 18lb 2oz and a new PB.

Well done Jamie! A first 20lber will not be long in coming.

Jamie has impressed senior anglers by his quiet dedication and determination especially with the lure fishing. He certainly has a very bright future in Pike angling. Keep it up Jamie!

Sadly we heard from a local that "Rocky" the sturgeon had been moved to pastures new. We all hoped it wasn't to the local fish and chip shop. Shane was disappointed, so had to contend with a few Pike instead!

Club weekend approaches...

Its time to clean off the tackle for a piketastic weekend to South Yorkshire on what is starting to be an annual pilgrimage. Please let Shane know if you are deciding to go last minute.

The agreed weekend was the long weekend starting 26th October returning sometime Monday the 29th. Hopefully the mild weather will continue as those caravans can be pretty cold.

Previous visits have been very successful with everyone catching fish and this trip might just provide a second chance at Shane trying to catch Rocky the Sturgeon!

Even with a few minor setbacks like grounded Ford Escorts and Craigs fun with a "help I'm slipping into the water" Rav 4x4's it looks set to be a fab weekend. Lets just hope Jim T remembers to buy a new toothbrush this year.

Durham City update

We had 12 rods fishing the day on the river wear last Sunday but sadly no fish showed. Some blamed heavy cormorant predation whilst others were puzzled as to the reasons why.

We all had a good laugh on the day though especially when Jim Taylor narrowly managed to avoid running away with the circus encamped on the sands free stretch nearby. We eventually told him where to fish and gave him a big castle as a landmark. 40 minutes later he found us.

Big thanks to Durham City Angling club and especially John Hepworth who allowed us to fish their stretch free on the day.

Conference update

Fairburn Fishery opens to Select group of PAC members

After a lot of hard work by Brian Carragher, Chas White, Craig and others the region has finally managed to negotiate a lease for the Fairburn fishery in North Yorkshire. This is a breakthrough for the region as the RSPB have granted us an annual lease with them for the foreseeable future. Due to the distance involved from the venue and the need for careful policing of the fishery Teesside Darlington and Durham have joined forces with Leeds and Wakefield to share the venue with them. A few months ago we also managed to enlist the kind support of the Environment Agency who did a test netting for us. The results were encouraging.

We've negotiated with the RSPB some pike friendly rules which are as follows

Fairburn Ings Fishery - Rules

All members must have their photo i.d. membership card with them at all times whilst fishing and show it upon request by any other member or RSPB Bailiff. You are recommended to carry an alternative form of identification, as all members names will be entered on a database of which the RSPB will be aware.

All litter and line must be removed from the area prior to and after fishing and taken home for disposal. Members can only use plastic coated lead weights or Non toxic weights.

All members are honorary Bailiffs and are expected to challenge anyone else fishing to produce their permit so as to help prevent unauthorised use of the site. Members should ask any unauthorised persons to leave the site immediately without placing themselves at risk. Members are also requested to make a note of any challenges and pass this information on to their Regional Organiser.

You are required to notify an RSPB Bailiff or official if you notice any bird or animal in distress howsoever caused. Also any unusual or unnatural occurrence e.g. set lines, nets, snares, traps etc and any act of vandalism to the site.

A maximum of 4 rods may be used having due regard for other members providing the necessary EA rod licences are held.

No live-baits to be used.

No trees or branches to be cut without the permission of the PAC Regional Organiser (s) or the RSPB officers.

No bait boats or watercraft allowed.

Night fishing is allowed.

Some of the swims consist of gravel and the use of an unhooking mat is mandatory in these areas or all fish can be unhooked in the water to prevent damage. It goes without saying that all Pike are to be returned alive to the water as soon as possible unharmed.

No swimming will be allowed.

No live fish, aquatic plants or other forms of pond life are to be introduced to, or removed from the clubs water without permission of the committee.

Members must keep within the clubs boundaries at all times. These can be seen on the map attached.

All cars are to be parked in the car parks only.

The water may be closed at any time when deemed necessary by the committee.

No persons other than club members are permitted to fish club waters. Dogs are prohibited.

As the water is afforded SSSI status then it will be closed to fishing during closed season (March 14^th to June 16^th)

Any Region wishing to have a Fish-In must give a minimum of 4 weeks notice to the other respective Regional Organisers.

A maximum of 20 anglers may fish the clubs water at any one time as per licence agreement.

Members must comply with the byelaws of the Environment Agency and any other authorised byelaws and regulations relating to the water.

All members must keep a complete record of all fish caught, noting species and quantity and then pass this information on to their Regional Organiser.

The committee may revise these rules at any time.

ACA talk by Mark Lloyd

Mark gave us some interesting insights into the work of the ACA this evening with a further two members signing up to the organisation on the night. Mark took a break from fishing the River Tyne (salmon fishing) to talk to us for which we were very grateful.

Whilst the turnout was lower than expected those present gave mark a warm welcome and congratulated mark and the ACA team on their successes. Prosecutions have landed up to £420Kfor fisheries and clubs in a single case.

We urge everyone to consider membership of this excellent cause and wish Mark and his team every success.

Jim lands a double for his first fish!

Jim Chinnock a newcomer to pike fishing from County Durham went out fishing with the help of experienced angler Brian Carragher and landed this beauty of 16lb + from a popular local river in North yorks.

That's a great start for Jim but will be hard to beat ! Well done Jim welcome to the world of Pike fishing.

Darron's Florida Trip

Darron's back yes they actually let him back in to the UK this Sunday morning. I visited Darron the other day and ....well he's brought back a bit more than we thought as the prices and the dollar rate were so good

All members will be sent out a list once Shane has managed to price it all up. I'm sure though there are some reel bargains...well not reels ...but powerpro, Owner trebles and electronic scales to name a few items.

Members trip to Scotland

The trip to Scotland was a bit of a let down this time round with an overnighter on a favoured venue drawing a blank. All was not lost however as those present decided to try a another water nearby resulting in a few jacks.
